Abstract: Two kinds of new in-situ triaxial test methods are presented to measure average stress-strain relationships frock masses. The one is a shallow test conducted on a large hollow cylindrical specimen prepared at or near the ground surface, while the other is a deep test conducted on a small cylindrical specimen prepared at the bottom of drill-hole. Some examples of the results of these in-situ triaxial tests are presented demonstrating successful evaluation of the deformation and strength characteristics of the rock masses in the field.
