Abstract: The temperature of particles, heated by radiation, has been investigated using laser-induced phosphorescence. The particles were fluidised using an optically-accessible fluidised bed system, while the radiation was supplied by a solid state solar thermal simulator operated at ~915 nm. When the flux and the irradiation time was set at 19.7MW/m2, the maximum particle’s temperature and the average particle’s temperature over 250s were 650°C and 123°C respectively.
