Abstract: This chapter describes the nature of gas exposure and the implications for decontamination of exposed persons in hazardous materials incidents. An approach for systematic investigation of gas-skin interaction is outlined and findings presented for ten common substances. The limitations and applicability of this approach for first responder advice are also described.
