Abstract: The regeneration of bone defects resulting from tumors, diseases, infections, trauma, biochemical disorders, and abnormal skeletal development poses a significant clinical challenge. Over the years, many bone graft substitutes including autografts, allografts, and synthetic materials have been developed. The relative shortage and traumatic harvesting procedures required for autografts, together with the potential for disease transmission and adverse host immune reactions against allografts, have increased the need to develop synthetic bone substitutes.
