Abstract: | This paper examines the application of phase advance modulation with a semi-bridge switched mode rectifier (SMR) previously used in automotive applications to small-scale wind turbines. Simulations and experimental testing are conducted to determine the optimal parameter selection with this modulation technique which results in increased output power while maintaining the phase current at its rated value. A surface permanent magnet generator from a commercial 400 W wind turbine is used for the simulation model and experiments. The results obtained using this technique are compared to those obtained using conventional SMR modulation as well as inverter operation. |
