dc.description.abstract | The analysis of fluid transients has been recognised as a potential tool for the non-invasive assessment of the structural health of pipelines. This paper offers a new transient-based distributed deterioration detection technique for single pipelines using a pair of pressure transducers that are located in close proximity. A signal separation technique is used to decompose measured pressure traces into two axial plane waves: the wave travelling upstream and that travelling downstream. Using the axial plane waves, the wave reflections can be directly attributed to their source, yielding the impedance and location of the deterioration. The proposed technique is verified numerically in this study. | - |
